Agreed. Sometimes it works for the church, sometimes it does more harm I believe. But I guess learning and growing as a church is just part of that process. As long as something is learned that is.

Great post by the way.

or maybe, the church sometimes tries to be edgy just for the sake of being edgy?

Honestly, I think that Jesus was "edgy" to extent of musicians like Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, or any of the other Highway Men. They basically were just theirselves , even when being theirself wasnt in.

Each artist had both ups and downs, but remained true to themselves. I honestly think the church tries too hard at times to create the new thing or start a new wave of "edginess".

It all boils down to the fact that people are hurting. If one's faith needs an edge to propel them to help hurting people then they may want to double check theirself and their motives.

Just be authentic, be genuine. Help hurting people. Show them love and that you relate to what they are going through. The rest of the Christian culture or edge that new people are finding eventually will be laughed at just like we laugh at some of the old photos from the late 80s, early 90s.

Anyways, didnt mean to rant.
