Good times and bad

I was flipping through my journal this morning looking for a couple notes that I scratched in there and I took a quick tour of where I was a few months ago. I was in a dark place at the end of last summer into the fall as I made some major transitions that were necessary and good…just painful.

I say that, because everything seems to be connecting lately and I thought I would just say that I’m stoked about it. Sometimes you only hear the life reports from people when things suck.

Are you seeing some good stuff happening in your life?

Let’s connect

I haven’t dropped the ‘add me to the blogroll’ post in a while, so here it is.

If you are a nikao reader and you blog, let me know in the comments that you are missing from the links page and I will spread the love.

I am unsubscribing to your blog

My closest inner circle knows that I am streamlining my life in a big way and part of that is un-subscribing to your blog if you are one of these:

  • Don’t send entire posts to my reader. I need to move fast, I only want to visit your blog to comment.
  • You won’t stop pushing stuff. Nothing wrong with that, I just need less stuff. I’m glad your friend wrote a cool book or they are doing the sweetest webinar.
  • Your blog is safe. I need to be filled with energy and thoughts from people that are pushing hard for the Kingdom. So take a chance.

I will say, that I wouldn’t mind adding a couple feeds. Any suggestions?

The Church Lawn

I’m sure there are different schools of thought on lawn care, I haven’t delved deep into the inner workings of the lawn care philosophy community, but I have my own ideas on how to produce lush grass. I would qualify that by saying that my current lawn is my first attempt at such an endeavor and it is only 200 square feet, so controlling the variables is probably easier for me than some dude with half an acre.

My lawn looks killer after a few weeks.

So here’s my secret:

Start from scratch
The beauty is in the fact that there isn’t any grass there that is stuck in its ways. There hasn’t been time for weeds to settle their roots. I could pick the type of grass that likes to live in the local climate. I was able to rip open the ground before planting so I could put up to date irrigation in that would meet the needs of my lawn. Now all of the grass that is sprouting up is new and I bet if I could talk to it, it would be pretty darn excited about what’s going on.

Starting from scratch has its advantages for a church too, which is one of the reasons I have been involved in church planting for the last 5 and a half years.

I mention this as a primer for info that I will be delivering very soon. Exciting news.

A new look for a new year

I wasn’t digging my theme anymore, mainly because there wasn’t a place for billy to reside. With all that I have going on I don’t have much time to worry about what nikao looks like, so I dropped this ‘out of the box theme’ on here and swapped out the logo.

I had to drop all of the categories too. The menu that it was generating was ridiculous. I should be okay since the tags are better for me anyhow.

The links that used to live in the side bar, are now rocking steady on their own page. So if you are a regular here, let me know and I will put you on the list.

Thoughts?

A Quick Question

If  your church was suddenly shut down, other than the people that attend, who would care?

Why?

Serving Two Masters

I’ve been as guilty of serving two masters as anyone. There’s one particular instance of it that I am really trying to shake.

I don’t want people to be confused by my motive for doing church. I want it to be clear that I do church because I am serving the Kingdom of God.

I don’t want to get caught up making stupid decisions because I am trying to build some institution.

It happens to all pastors, we get into a cycle of making choices that serve the institution we have built rather than serve the Kingdom of God.
