No way!
To me… They are all great. Really, really good.
I was really surprised. Cause I was prepared to hate it.
But that's just me.
(and I'm not the nut-job, blind apologist I used to be about that band.)

I have become quite weary of U2 and they will need to re-earn my trust.
Guilty until proven innocent

You really feel strongly about this album, don't you?
[Reply]
maybe I just don't think they should get a free 'platinum pass' right out of the gate. And let's be honest. they are still riding the 'joshua tree wave', which was an awesome album
[Reply]
I can't even begin to describe the wrongness.
This album is epic. It's the album any true U2 fan has been waiting for since Achtung. It's like October, but in 2009. Brilliant.

I'm not sure if #1 is the worst of the best of the worst…anyways, if it is the worst, then "Fez" should be higher.

good call

hmmn if you are still longing for another Joshua Tree then you may not be a true U2 fan? Kind of like people who say they love M. Night movies and then say The Sixth Sense was awesome. (not raggin' you, i'm just wondering)
I do agree that the song Get on Your Boots completely sucks lyrically and you are right they shouldn't just get a free pass but I listened to the album online and for the most part it's pretty good. They have constantly reinvented themselves for the past few decades and have remained culturally and musically relevant I believe. I guess we will see when the album finally officially releases.

I would never claim to be a fan.
i would also say it's probably not fair of me to not allow them to outgrow Joshua Tree.
I think my biggest beef is the free pass they get

well that makes sense, i can see why you might not like it.
yeah there are a lot of people who just put a stamp of approval because of their popularity.
i like most of their stuff, my last favorite album was All That You Can't Leave Behind.

Vince, you know how much of a U2 fanatic I am…and that what I've heard from the new album, I love.
But this post absolutely made my day. No matter how you feel about U2, that was classic. Tip of the cap to you, sir.

I think you are the only one that gets it. But then again you like norm mcdonald too.
[Reply]
There are people that don't like Norm McDonald?!!

typical vince, and I love it.
On the beef with a free pass… I think once you've earned a level of respect you get some free passes. But I don't believe U2 always uses them. Most people are fly by night fans, and cry foul with every new album. But U2 just does what they want – they flaunt it. Accuse of of selling out? Ok, we're gonna show you what a sell out looks like and make some kick ass music in the process (along with a crapload of money… ZooTV). Think we're getting too digital and dance based? Hell, we'll make a dance album – put that in your pipe and smoke it. Hey, I got a good idea – let's release our next album inside a K-mart!
And this isn't an argument – I get what you're saying. But U2 has earned the right to do whatever they want and if you don't like it, well, don't buy it, don't go to the shows, don't give out a grammy, or a platinum album… but what always happens? people end up liking it, buying it, going to the shows and handing out grammy's & platinum albums…
Anyway, I can't believe I just wrote all that – I guess I am still a fan.

I still like U2. I will probably dig a few tracks on the new album
[Reply]
I like most of it but i've said it elsewhere and I'll say it again…Get Your Boots On is The Escape Club's Wild Wild West only with more ludicrous lyrics and less tune…

I agree that U2 shouldn’t get an automatic “platinum pass”, but alas, they typically do. I’m sort of a lukewarm fan of U2, I have enjoyed most of their releases and don’t think they have released an album that is downright “horrible” (thought POP came close). I guess I’m just tired of the hype that dissapoints. I remember before HTDAAB came out there was so much hype about it being a really hard album and it being “the record of our lifetime”, and No Line being “another one of U2′s innovative records”. No Line is GOOD at best but I don’t hear anything they haven’t done before. Some alright tracks that stick out, especially the opening track, but a completely decent, not great and not a masterpiece, album. Of course it’ll sell millins of copies worldwide and we’ll have to endure another grammy sweep most likely while smaller, more unknown bands are coming out with WAY MORE innovative and creative music.

@Chris :: I’m still waiting to here a single that is good
