Do you really believe?

Sometimes I wonder if we really believe in the stuff in the Bible. Or more importantly, the stuff that Jesus talked about.

Mark 12 has a familiar exchange:

…Love others as well as you love yourself.’ There is no other commandment that ranks with these…

I doubt that enough Christians truly weigh these words and fully grasp what they mean. The people that were present when Jesus had this conversation certainly did. It hit them right in the face. Later in the passage it says:

…After that, no one else dared ask a question.

They absorbed that statement instantly and added up the cost of believing it on the spot. The weight of this concept silenced them.

Do you really add it up?

Have you counted the cost of such a concept?

What are you prepared to do_

I think that if we really believed even half the stuff we read in the Bible the world would look completely different. I'm trying hard to sculpt my life into one that reflects my beliefs. But I'm taking it one step at a time. Sometimes I get frustrated and have to remind myself that there is a reason The Father sent His Son to die on that cross!
