Austin, initial thoughts

To coin a phrase I heard a Texan say one time:

I’m as lost as a goose in a hail storm!

I spent an hour this morning looking for a coffee shop. I ended up doing a lot of U-turns.

The main grocery store around here is called H E B, yes it sounds like something you need a vaccination for, but it will work just fine for the day in and day out shopping augmented by trips to Whole Foods and Central Market.

We’ve met a few of our neighbors and so far everyone is really nice. The kids are stoked to have their toys back.

Lots to do. I’m gonna go get a hair cut.

    HA!

I remember those days when we first moved to a new "country", otherwise known as the south. The first things on my list of things I NEEDED to locate was a Target, a Starbucks and some decent Chinese food. After that everything else was a bonus. I flat out REFUSED to shop at a Piggly Wiggly and am proud to say that after 8 years I still haven't placed a single toe in one.

Hang in there, praying for ya.

Soon you will be, as my dad would say, "busier than a one-armed paper hanger in a windstorm"!

Welcome to Austin. I hope you'll come to love it here as much as many of us do.

    Hey Bubba,

Can't believe you're a real Texan now. Yeeeehaw! Just for fun, start counting how many times you hear "You ain't from around here, are you?"

Actually I'm sure you'll fit right in … lots of good folks in Austin. Be careful about the barber shops, though.

Missing you already in California and praying for you guys.

I know the church there, will be BLESSED to have you 4. Before long you will be loving the place. On thing I always remember about Texas is that the people are soooooooooo friendly….walking from our r.V. to a store, everyone said "hello" or "howdy". Everyone is soooooo friendly. Hope you all pick up that Southern Accent…I know the kids will. They won't even know it, it will just happen. Love you ….hugs, granny ila

    Vince,

I think you and the family will come to really love Austin. There really isn't any other town like it in Texas (which I looooove!). Yeah, we might talk funny and say things like "We are as busy as a one legged man in a butt kicking contest", but I hope we grow on you. And no, we really DON'T talk like that, and yes we LOVE coffee, too! LOL. So put on your flip flops and t-shirt and have some Texas fun. By the way, we have a Texas pledge that you will be tested on after 6 months here. Google it (really, I'm serious this time!)

Gateway is very blessed to have you.
