Children born to a young man
are like arrows in a warrior’s hands.
How joyful is the man whose quiver is full of them!

-proverbs 127

As a parent, I have a some serious concern about the future of my children. I want them to be safe. I want people to like them. I want them to find success in their endeavors.

Do we get too caught up in trying to manipulate the cards to favor those we love most so that they might have a good life in the future?

I just read this article about a kid who’s future life seemed to be the only thing on is parents mind. I don’t know these people and all the details, but regardless of all that, it would appear that maybe they forgot to be truly concerned about where he was in the moment and instead gambled it all on what his future might be…and they lost it all.

I’m going to love my kids today simply because I love them today.

I’m gonna read them books not because it will make them better students, but because they love it.

I’m going to discipline them because I want them to be good right now.

I’m going to show them what it means to be a Christ Follower because it’s good for them right now.

And maybe at the end of the day when I pull those arrows out of my quiver, they will fire true and straight.

But that’s in God’s hands_
