A few years ago I started fasting from red meet in October to give my insides a break from it and occasionally I will drop meat all together for a week here or there. Then I started dropping the red meat for a month in the spring too.
This year I’m going all out, but not just for the health reasons. This year I am dropping all meat, caffeine, brew and sugar laced drinks in a month long fast as I prepare myself for the launch of church online at Gateway Church.
Every time I start to twitch for coffee or crave a juicy steak, I say another prayer and ask God to prepare me for this massive task.

Hey Vince, well done on the fast. I just completed something similar – 40 days fasting Coptic style like my Egyptian Christian brothers. Basically it’s a vegan thing. No animal products. I gave myself a day off on my birthday and another on my wedding anniversary – couldn’t go 40 days without sushi. I’m a wimp.
God did some cool things though – no doubt fasting changes things in our prayer life.

I have to admit that the caffeine was the hardest the first week, but now I could really use a steak and a pint

That’s cool. I do the same thing, but not as thorough as you every lenten season. My wife and I fast alcohol and/or meat. (Feb 25 – Apr 9)
I wish more fasting and meditation was more emphasized. I’ve noticed that when fasting together & while appreciating his death more, God seems to bless us with a renewed peace of mind and heightened marital harmony.
btw. “steak and a pint” is just poetic.
