Verge | Missional Community Conference

Screen shot 2009-11-28 at 9.43.50 AM

2 reasons to go to Verge

#1 :: It’s in Austin. Everyone needs a reason to come to Austin. It’s pretty much the coolest city in the country that you forgot about.

#2 :: Rudy’s. It may not be traditional Texas dry rub BBQ, but it rocks.

There is also a pretty killer line up of speakers at Verge likeĀ  Francis Chan, Alan Hirsch and Gateway Church‘s own John Burke.

Not to mention the fact that this conference comes at a pretty low cost relatively speaking.

Let me know if you’re coming so we can hang out.

Ignoring the signs

do-not-climb

This is a confession I guess.

I tend to ignore signs. I think it is due to my life as a skateboarder growing up in a time without skateparks. Which basically meant if you wanted to skate you had to break the rules…because every spot had a sign.

Maybe I’m testing the people that oversee the space in question? Do they really mean it, or is it just something they feel they must do to protect something or someone?

or…

Maybe it’s because I have seen a lot of people create a lot of rules that deep in their hearts they don’t believe in; and maybe I’m here to find out who really means what they say and who is just putting up a front to protect an alternate reality they wish to create?

Missing the point | evolution

Once again, Christians are missing the mark in a big way.

It would appear that a Christian group of some kind thinks it’s a good idea to re-write Darwin’s Origin of Species with an opener that slams evolution.

I hope all of the churches around the country are ready for the flood of people that is about to happen during what will be the most amazing spiritual revival in the history of America!!

I always seem to buy the right thing

Apparently I bought my wife a new bed set for her birthday yesterday. It’s funny because I don’t remember buying it.

I usually buy more practical gifts, but for a second I thought this purchase that I made in my sleep or something was significantly more practical than it actually turned out to be. You see when it came time to use the gift, ergo…go to bed, I watched my wife remove the kit from our bed and I grabbed my He-Man blanket like I always do.

The thing looks so fluffy and soft, why can’t I sleep on it? What’s the point of this thing?

School kills creativity

I watched this Ted talk yesterday and it resonated with me in such a big way. I barely made it through the educational system. It wasn’t geared for people like me.

Creative. Mold breaking. Irreverent to the rules. Tactile. Visual. Experiential.

I can’t say anything that isn’t said in this video, so watch it. This dude hits the nail on the head. I hope I can fill in the gaps where the educational system lacks for my kids.

American TV is behind the times

Japanese television has it all.

The bummer is that this American guy couldn’t get an American television show to showcase this amazing feat of manhood
