We’re gonna miss you Impact Church

by Vince on May 11, 2009

Yesterday we made the formal announcement at Impact Church that I was taking a position at Gateway Church. For the most part, people close to us already heard the news, we just wanted to make sure we let everyone know.

Impact Church is such a beautiful community of Christ followers and we will miss it dearly. You have a place to crash next time you’re in Austin.

Impact Church gets a new website

by Vince on March 25, 2009

I’m not gonna lie, the new Impact Church website is hot. Sure the color scheme is not what you have come to expect from a church website, brown and mustard, but someone has to blaze the trail toward the cutting edge.

I’ll let you in on a little secret, especially if you are a church plant like us, or a smaller church on a budget. The site is built on an open source platform (read: FREE) called Joomla and the template was picked up at Rockettheme.com. It means the site went from an idea to live with about 20 hours of work.

Do me a favor, go check it out and then come back over here and let me know what you think. Be honest, we’re not too proud.

Music | Weekly Hitlist

by Vince on May 2, 2008

This is the current ‘ambient’ play list from Impact Church. You know, when people are milling about before and after service. The only thing it is missing is some hip hop. Which begs the question. Why is Christian rap so bad?

You may notice a couple choice nuggets in there. Earthsuit…currently reincarnated as Mute Math. Wilco… their new album is on point. Angels & Airwaves… why not? And of course, Matisyahu.

Top Ten Things of 2007

by Vince on December 20, 2007

Rather than pigeon hole myself into a single category, I thought I would just do everything in one shot.

  1. No Country For Old Men. This movie will probably end up in my top ten movies of all time list, it’s that good. If you like the Coen Brothers and Fargo, then you will like this even more. Rich with truth and humanity. I might even read the book.
  2. Science And The Akashic Field. If you are a cog, and heavy truth lends to you connecting with God, then you must read this book now. A very heavy read. You will find yourself re-reading so much of it just to catch up on vocabulary.
  3. In Rainbows. Radiohead may have made the biggest dent in changing the music industry in years. In a day where most crap on the radio sucks…it is nice to see a real album get some press.
  4. Bass Pro Shops. We finally have one in Southern California after being teased for 3 years. I love the outdoors, and Bass Pro knows how to do it, if you can navigate through the huge trucks in the parking lot.
  5. 24. Was it the last season because of the writers strike? I hope not.
  6. Florida Gators Basketball. Back to back baby. I’m not a fan of Florida, but they have been a blast to watch these last two seasons. They work hard and Joakim Noah works harder.
  7. 2008 Giant Reign. It’s actually a 2008, but I got it a few months ago. My new bike is everything I needed and more.
  8. Ron Paul. There is hope for America when someone like Ron Paul has a chance. He is the only candidate that isn’t owned by corporate America or the war machine. I beg you to take a look for yourself.
  9. Sky Blue Sky. Wilco is probably the best band that you have never heard of and this is their best album.
  10. Smithwick’s. I just discovered Smithwick’s this year. It is kind of like Newcastle…but better.

What did I miss?

Last night at the creative team meeting we started brainstorming ideas for Christmas at Impact Church. What will the website look like? The auditorium? The patio? Graphics? Print? I’m actually really excited about where we are going with it. Christmas at Impact Church will be blue, white and silver. As a church plant we have to do everything on a budget, which just means we have to be extra creative.

Not only does it have to look cool, but it needs to be extremely portable and durable. Stuff gets tossed around pretty good during load in/out. We have done a good job of making sure everything we use for setup has a road case with wheels on it. Often times the case coast more than the contents.

I’m thinking fabric…lots of fabric and hitting it with lights. Almost completely blue lights…A few white ones.

For all the worship and creative people out there…what are you doing for Christmas? Lets share some ideas.

Church Website Overhaul

by Vince on October 16, 2007

I have been tinkering with the Impact Church website the last few weeks and I am starting to like where it is going. I have abandoned the rich strong colors that most churches are going with. I wanted to see a site that was bright and alive. I have always been a fan of super clean like Mars Hill Michigan, but I feel the need to hit the soccer moms and real estate agents that populate the valley with some graphics.

Next steps will include populating the site with more and better images of what is going on around Impact, then I can start updating the content. Oh yeah, and spend about 30 hours making the site work right in Internet Explorer. If you’re still using it, do us all a favor and stop.

What I need from you is some insight for styling, content and usability.
