Week 2 of the new weekly hitlist. I pop open the ‘top 25′ in my iTunes and here is what I see. I bought the soundtrack to Once a few weeks ago; I haven’t spun it much until this week. In Rainbows is still peppering the list along with a few odds and ends. Check out Chris Velan when you get a chance and ‘Sullivan Street’ is the best track off of August and Everything After.Vince’s top 25

vince’s top 25 for the this weekI haven’t done a weekly hitlist in a while. If you have been following the blog you know that I have tried to keep the computers off on Saturday when I traditionally do the Hitlist. Add to that it’s easter week and the tournament started yesterday, I have a lot going. So I thought I would keep it light and drop some music love. I decided the easiest way to do it would be to just drop the top 25 most played from my iTunes on you. Every week I can reset it and hook you up with some love. Let my qualify this by saying this machine is also the ‘stereo’, as it were, for our house. It has the big speakers and sub and what not. So the list will also reflect what my wife is rocking too. So just click on the pic and check it out in all it’s glory. This is probably more than a month of plays.

After spending some time at the NAMM show this week I have been encourage the music does have a chance. Music has taken a beating throughout it’s history as money enters the equation and music is forced to redefine itself. So this week I thought I would point out some musical genus. Here are three songs the exude pure creativity. They are a clash of insane creativeness and raw talent. Not to over sell them. They may not be some of the best songs ever, but they are pure. Complete with videos this week.

Ben Folds | brick. Ben Folds has so much talent and creativity, it just isn’t fair. I wish he could email me some of what he’s got.

Postal Service | such great heights. Have you ever listened to the lyrics…rich.

Radiohead | videotape. Raw and heavy, really good poetry.

There are more than we could ever count…but I’m pretty sure Umbrella or anything by Fergie is not on the list.

What did I miss?

The end of the year is coming so I am going to put together a list of the Albums that were there for me this year. Not all of these came out this year, it’s just that they actually made an impression this year. So I guess it is my own top ten albums of the year 2007. So here they are in no particular order

  • John Mayer | continuum. High quality album in all regards. A must Own.
  • Muse | black holes and revelations. A fresh look at rock music. If You Like Radiohead, you may dig Muse
  • Audioslave | revelations. Was Audioslave the last hope for pure rock? I hope not.
  • Radiohead | in rainbows. Hot off the press and without a label at that. We may discover that this album is genius. Time will tell.
  • Spoon | ga ga ga ga ga. This album is starting to grow on me.
  • Wilco | blue sky blue. Wilco continues to put out some sweet and smart albums…this one may be their best. And you probably haven’t even heard of them.
  • Mat Kearney | nothing left to lose. Although most of the tracks are from an older album, it is an awesome album that really got some attention this year.
  • Ray LaMontagne | till the sun turns black. Album from last year that got some steam in 2007. Poetry the way it used to be.
  • Silversun Pickups | carnavas. ‘Lazy Eye’ put a spark into the middle of the year that music was missing. The radio play it got in So Cal was close to too much, but ended up just right.
  • White Stripes | icky thump. On paper I shouldn’t like this album, but I do.

It’s Saturday, so time for the weekly hit list. It’s been a weird week with Southern California being on fire. It has put everyone in a weird mood, plus you can hardly go outside because of the smoke…but it is raining now. Should help the firemen and clean out the air.

So this week I have some choice cuts that I have been spinning:

  • Radiohead | in rainbows; Did you get it yet? Like every Radiohead album, it gets better and better the more I listen to it.
  • Greyboy | land of the lost; Just some cool beats. Is it jazz? Is it hip hop? I don’t know and I don’t care…it’s just smooth. Not to be confused with DJ Greyboy or the Greyboy allstars.
  • Audioslave | revelations; I’ve been playing a lot of guitar this week and Tom Morello is my guitar hero.

What are you spinning this week.
