The reccession is an answer to my prayers

That’s right. I said it.

In staff meetings, church planning meetings, conferences and various consulting situations that I find myself in, a common topic always comes up. We always end up asking the question:

What are the biggest needs in {insert community here}?

We usually run through the motions of trying to figure out if there are some homeless people laying around somewhere so we can rush to save them and feel good about ourselves and get some good photos for the website.

That’s all well and good, the helping out of the homeless people, and its a different blog post all together.

The reality is that a lot of average churches in average towns in average America aren’t targeting homeless people as their main focus, they are targeting average Americans. So let’s get back to the question of what they need.

The people I know, work too hard and are away from their families way too much, so what is their biggest need? It’s  to work less and have less stuff.

So I am stoked about the recession, because a lot of people are going to have the priorities in their lives rearranged, and probably for the better. And it sounds like my prayers are being answered_
